Furthermore, you only need to use 20% less media by weight! For example, if your filter calls for 100 lbs of sand, you would only need to use 80 lbs of glass media
Why choose glass over sand for your pool filter?
Improved Clarity: The primary reason that we recommend our customers to ‘switch to glass’ is for clarity purposes. Your standard No. 20 Silica Sand only filters down to around 20 – 40 microns. Glass filter media, on the other hand, filters down to 5-10 microns- making your pool filter around 30% more effective.
Less Frequent Maintenance: In addition to improved clarity, glass is known to last a good bit longer than traditional sand. Whereas sand should be replaced every 3 – 5 years, glass pool filter media extends that timeframe to 5 – 8 years. Please note however that this ultimately depends on the amount of debris that goes through your filter.
