Additional Information
Safety information
- Signal word: DANGER
- Classification: Oxidizing solids — Category 2. Acute toxicity (inhalation) — Category 2. Acute toxicity (oral) — Category 4. Skin corrosion — Category 1C. Corrosive to metals — Category 1. Serious eye damage — Category 1. Reproductive toxicity — Category 2. Specific target organ toxicity, single exposure — Category 3 (respiratory system). Acute and chronic aquatic toxicity — Category 1.
- H272 May intensify fire; oxidizer.
- H290 May be corrosive to metals.
- H302 Harmful if swallowed.
- H314 Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.
- H318 Causes serious eye damage.
- H330 Fatal if inhaled.
- H335 May cause respiratory irritation.
- H361 Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child.
- H400 / H410 Very toxic to aquatic life, with long lasting effects.
- Damp or wet material may generate nitrogen trichloride, an explosion hazard. Contact with acids liberates toxic gas.
Handling
- Never add water to the product. Always add the product to a large quantity of water.
- Use clean, dry utensils. Do not add this product to any dispensing device containing remnants of another product.
- Avoid contamination with moisture, organic matter or other chemicals.
- Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Avoid breathing dust or fumes.
- Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
- The vapour space in a closed container may hold a small amount of chlorine gas — open with care in a ventilated area.
- Avoid release to sewers, watersheds and water systems.
Personal protective equipment
- Hands: chemical-resistant gloves
- Eyes: chemical safety goggles
- Body: protective clothing, long-sleeved, to prevent skin contact
- Feet: chemical-resistant boots
- Respiratory: an approved respirator with a chemical cartridge if dust or vapour cannot be avoided
- Ventilation: general room ventilation plus local exhaust at points of emission
Storage
Keep the material dry and store it in a dry area. Store in the original container, retie the polyethylene liner and keep the container tightly closed. Store where temperatures do not exceed 52 °C (125 °F) for 24 hours. Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage.
Incompatible materials
Incompatible with easily oxidizable organic material; ammonia, urea and similar nitrogen-containing compounds; inorganic reducing compounds; floor sweeping compounds; calcium hypochlorite; alkalis; acids; water; and lime. Do not get water inside the container — wet material may generate nitrogen trichloride, an explosion hazard. Avoid moisture, moist air and high temperatures.
